Block paving

Any blocks in your choice of colour and style can be used in the construction of your newly paved driveway, path or patio. These will enhance the appearance, and increase the value of your property, probably by a significantly larger amount than the cost of the project itself.

The versatility of block paving/clay paving also allows it to be lifted and re-laid at any given time to allow easy access to any services that may run underneath. There are various manufacturers that we would probably recommend to you, these being: Plaspave, Marshalls, Bradstone or Eaton. The quality and durability of these products have been proven to us over the years.

When you contact us for an estimate we will be happy to show you brochures from any of these companies so that you can find the right product for you. When we have narrowed down the possibilities we will find a sample of the required product or products for you so we can see how they look on-site helping you to make the right choice for your future enjoyment.

Flagging

Flagging encompasses many different types of paving from concrete slabs to natural products, such as Indian stone. These are all laid using a similar method and, with a wide range of experience in all of these products, we guarantee we will be able to construct the driveway or patio to suit all your requirements.

Construction

• The following methods of preparation for the foundation apply to paths, patios and driveways for all styles of paving
• Full excavation of the designated area up to a depth of 250mm depending on ground density
• Geo-tex membrane laid over the entire area to stabilise the sub base and prevent sinkage
• 150 to180mm M.O.T stone foundation laid over the entire area then compacted using vibrating plate compactor or roller

Block paving

• 50mm grit-sand bed is laid over the entire area this is compacted and screeded to provide the correct levels for drainage
• All blocks are laid in the required pattern then all cuts are administered using a diamond tipped stihl saw blade
• A Kiln dried sand is brushed over the entire area then the paving is compacted for a final time
• A block paving sealant is sprayed over the job to inhibit moss and weed growth and prevent the ingress of water

Flagging

• All flags are laid on concrete a foundation for solidity and to prevent any future movement
• Where necessary to pave the required area all cuts are administered using a diamond tipped stihl saw blade
• All joints between the flags are pointed using a wet mortar mix

Gravel

Gravels come in a wide variety of colours and sizes and have a variety of uses - whether it is to give a new look to an existing driveway, path or patio or to enhance the appearance of a flower-bed or border. At Didsbury Driveways, through our suppliers, we have access to all of the most popular and complimentary options and we would be happy to help you find the one most suitable for you. All of our gravel jobs are installed with a Geo-tex membrane fitted underneath as standard, as this is necessary to prevent future weed growth. Any driveway or frequently used path or patio area, where strength is necessary, can be installed using an M.O.T stone sub-base with its own separate membrane to prevent future sinkage.  

Tarmac/Resibond

Tarmac or resin bonded driveways and patios can be used if you require a uniform coloured area with a strongly bonded surface which is suitable for all types of traffic and resistant to weeds. These products can also be used in conjunction with other paving materials to create, if you require, your own unique design. If the surface of your original driveway, or if the foundation under your original paving e.g. underneath blocks or flags is of sufficient strength, it is possible for it to be over-laid using either of the above products to enhance the appearance of your driveway at a fraction of the cost of a driveway requiring a full excavation . Because these products come in a variety of colours and can be laid in various styles, we would be happy to advise you about and show you examples of designs for both.

Concrete/Pattern Imprinted Concrete

Concrete and pattern imprinted concrete both provide you with a solid driveway with an impermeable surface resistant to all types of moss and weed growth. While concrete driveways are of a uniform colour, usually grey, pattern imprinted concrete comes in a wide variety of colours and patterns. We would be happy to show you our full range and help you with any choices you may need to make.

Cobbles/York Stone/Crazy Paving

Sometimes a more natural look is required for your paved area, and because of this you may be interested in using products such as natural stone cobbles, York stone flags or York stone crazy paving. Products like this can last a lifetime and at Didsbury Driveways our experienced tradesmen have used all of these therefore we can either install from new or we are able to provide a repair service to renovate and rejuvenate an existing paved area.

Walling

Walls can be used to create an attractive border or solid retainer where required. With a wide variety of colours and styles to compliment your paving and existing property, our experienced tradesmen will be able to build to your requirements whether you require an individual wall or for it to be included as part of a larger project.

Fencing

Fencing is generally used to determine borders between or around properties. As a cheaper alternative to a brick wall, it comes in a variety of heights with different panel and post styles. All fencing is installed by our experienced tradesmen, using a solid concrete mix for the posts to prevent any future movement.

Cleaning/ Repairs/ Re-sealing

For the older driveway and patio, Didsbury Driveways will use its experience to give it a new lease of life, making it something to be proud of again at a fraction of the cost of a newly paved area. Firstly we will clean the area by scrubbing into the surface an acid based cleaning solution then using a high pressure industrial strength rotary jet-wash to remove any remaining moss or weed growth and surface dirt. At this stage your driveway or patio will look as near to its original appearance as possible.

If necessary, we will then repair your paved area by lifting and re-instating any dipped areas, then in the case of Block-paving we will re-sand and compact, and in the case of flagging, we will re-point. Finally we will spray over a potent weed killer, then seal the area using an acrylic based sealant to inhibit moss and weed growth and prevent the ingress of water. Didsbury Driveways will also clean and re-seal Pattern imprinted concrete to as this can look dull and weathered over time. Any surface chips can be repaired simultaneously if required.

Re-lays

If the existing materials used to construct your driveway are still viable for future use, but the original driveway foundation has begun to degrade, then Didsbury Driveways offers a service which involves lifting the original paving, re-instating and compacting the foundation then re-laying your existing products. This enables you to re-gain the strength of your paving for the future without incurring the cost of buying new materials. This service can be used in conjunction with our cleaning service to provide a new solid paved area that has been rejuvenated to provide satisfaction for years to come.

Railings/Gates

Didsbury Driveways can offer a wide variety of styles of gates and railing. These can be incorporated into a building project or installed on their own as required. This can involve ironwork to top a newly built or existing wall, or new metal driveway gates to enhance the appearance of your property. We also provide and install wooden gates as a cheaper alternative to the above, but these are still attractive in design and we would be happy to show you examples of all of the above so you can make the right choice to suit your needs.

Turfing

Sometimes as part of new driveway or garden design the shape of your existing path or patio is changed completely from its original appearance. Because of this the shape of your existing garden can become totally mismatched to your new driveway or patio. In order to deal with this Didsbury Driveways offer a turfing service to bring the garden in line with the newly installed paving, or we can excavate the existing garden area and provide a whole new garden covered in top quality durable turf levelled to match and blend with any paving you have had installed. Alternatively, if it is just a newly laid level garden area that you require, then Didsbury Driveways will be happy to come and provide that for you.

Drainage/Groundwork

At Didsbury Driveways, we have experience in all types of ground work and drainage. For example, if you require the excavation of footings for an extension or conservatory including the removal of waste, then we can help. If you require a repair to an existing drain, or the installation of a new drainage system, then we can help. If you have a problem with a waterlogged garden, we can install land drains for you and if you require the installation of a new plastic mains water pipe to the required specifications and standard, then we can help.
